2nd seminar of annual educational programme

    „Communication Skills for Public Affairs“

From 6-9. May 2010 on the island of Brač (Postira) Academy for Political Development has organised 2nd annual educational seminar entitled „Communication Skills for Public Affairs“. The purpose of this training seminar was to enable participants acquiring practical skills (public speech, public relations, negotiations, lobbying), applicable in their professional environment and to discuss the practice and effects of media, and the quality and dynamics of public discourse in general.

1st annual seminar 2010.

    „Citizen, Society and Politics in Modern Democracy “
07.03.10.  

First annual seminar of Academy for Political Development in 2010. took place in Crikvenica from 7-9. March 2010. Thirty selected participants had the opportunity to learn and discuss topics such as traditional political ideologies, controversies of democracy, civil society in the process of democratic transition and consolidation, as well as process of Croatian accession to the EU, its final steps and main challenges ahead. The interactive workshop on political parties and their programmes enabled participants to go through the simulation of election process, including formulating party programmes, presenting it, and negotiating and forming coalitions.

    Academy for Political Development’s annual programme in 2010.

Academy for Political Development finalized the selection process and composed a group of 30 participants of the annual programme in 2010. List of participants is available here.

We’ve received 195 valid applications this year.  Unfortunately, due to the limited number of participants, many good candidates could not be included in this year's programme. All candidates were notified about the outcome of the selection process.
The selection process was managed by the Selection Board, consisting of members of APD’s Steering Board and a representative of National Foundation for Civil Society Development.

New participants will be informed about the upcoming activities on regular basis via e-mail and Academy’s Facebook group, and reports of finalized activities will be published here.
    Help for Haiti

Due to humanitarian catastrophe that has befallen the people of Haiti, following the devastating earthquake, Academy for Political Development made a donation in amount of 1,500 kn.
The fundamental values that Academy represents include the principle of solidarity and individual responsibility towards the community at large; although our mission and vision are democratic development of Croatian society, we have decided to (at least symbolically) contribute to easing the awful amount of human suffering and pain taking place in Haiti.

Based on the article "HTV journalist confirmed to Index: director of HRT called a journalist Chetnik whore" published on the website Index.hr on 18th October 2009, and taking into consideration  that incident had been confirmed by four prominent journalist (Lela Knežević, Maja Sever, Robert Zuber, Sanja Pavić-Mikleušević), The Steering Board of  Academy for Political Development, with support of over 60 members and participants of Academy’s programme, publicly objects the statement made. ....

Annual Conference of the Academy for Political Development

    "Responsibility for Change"

The 3rd annual conference of the Academy for Political Development, entitled “Responsibility for Change” took place in Zadar from 25th to 27th September 2009. This event gathered over one hundred members and participants from class 2009.

The programme began with the opening speeches by Nevena Crljenko, Executive Director of the Academy, Branislav Bibić, president of the Board of Directors, Dražen Grgurović, Deputy Mayor, City of Zadar, Robert Post, Public relations consultant, Embassy of the United States and the Ambassador Terje Hauge (Royal Norwegian Embassy).

4th Summer University for Democracy in Strasbourg

    „Global challenges to democracy“

One of the most important cities in Europe, home of the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights and the European Parliament - Strasbourg, for the fourth time hosted more than 600 participants from 16 organizations – members of the „Schools of Political Studies“ network. The program lasted from 6th to 10th July 2009. and the main topic was  „Global challenges to democracy“. The programme began with the opening address of Council of Europe’s Secretary General Mr. Terry Davis, who welcomed all participants and spoke about the challenges facing democracy, human rights and the European project.

Mr. Aharon Nathan, an Israeli intellectual living in London, was  guest lecturer of an evening lecture organized by Academy for Political Development on the 21st April 2009. Mr. Nathan’s visit to Zagreb was organized for the occasion of launching of his book „Total Representation”, co-authored by Mr. Ivo škrabalo.

The Third Summer University for Democracy, Strasbourg

From 30. June to 4. July 2008, the Council of Europe has successfully organized the  Third Summer University for Democracy in Strasbourg. More than 600 participants from 16 countries, from the organizations of „The Schools of Political Studies“ network have come together to discuss governance, power and democracy and its many aspects.
