Academy for Political Development organized a discussion on a much debated topic in Croatia, „Unpopular reforms – the key to political success?“. The event took place on 20 June 2006 at the premises of the Croatian Parliament. Sir John Ramsden, British ambassador to Croatia, presented the experience of the British Government to the Academy’s participants. Demonstrating the impact of the decisive economic reforms undertaken in Great Britain, he indicated the importance of responsible political leadership for the country’s prosperity.
Alumni and this year’s participants of the Academy took an active role in the discussion with the ambassador. Most of them were of an opinion that conducting unpopular reforms is necessary for further development of Croatia and membership in the European Union. Although, most were sceptic that in Croatian circumstances such kind of political responsibility would be recognized and honoured by the voters in the elections.
